POWDEC is concerned with the development and production of GaN transistor wafers for two major reasons: First, GaN transistor wafers are efficient fundamental materials for blue/green light emitting diodes, ultraviolet sensors, high speed or high power transistors, high performance power inverters and devices that are subjected to very strenous operating conditions (high temperature, high radiation levels, etc.). Second, GaN materials are important for 21st century environmental protection, as GaN is composed of innocuous materials, as opposed to widely-used GaAs semiconductors. GaN is a naturally intelligent replacement for GaAs devices.
